There is no risk in donating blood; the only risk is not to do it.

There are many myths and fears caused by the lack of information, to donate blood is not a big deal. If you are between 18 and 65 years old and your weight is over 50 kilos you can be a donor with no problem.

The amount of blood removed is only 10% of a person’s total amount of blood and does not cause weight gain or decrease, nor does it affect the person’s health.

To be a donor you must be in good shape and health, sleep at least six hours the night before, eat well and do not smoke for at least two hours before donating blood.

The collecting of blood lasts only 5 to 10 minutes, maybe a little more if you consider the time it takes to register and the monitoring process used for your own safety.

All equipment used is sterile and discarded after each use, so it is impossible to transmit disease or infection through the needle and extraction equipment.

All our processes are confidential. If you have something you want to tell us, do not hesitate to do so. Saving blood is entirely voluntary.

After being extracted, the blood is subjected to several tests before it can be used in transfusions. It is not about donating blood, but to save it for your future.

In addition, Hospital Metropolitano offers benefits to encourage you to save blood.

Blood saving benefits:

  • Immediate access to blood for the donor, spouse and children less than 18 years old for a year.
  • Membership Card of the Donors Club.
  • 10% discount on lab tests at Hospital Metropolitano.
