In 1986, Metrofraternidad Foundation began its activities, an institution created to provide free medical assistance to low income patients.
Metrofraternidad's work focuses on the care of complex diseases that require medical consultation and surgical procedures of high complexity. The valuable work of Metrofraternidad has the support of the Hospital Metropolitano, who contributes with infrastructure services, personnel and technology at no cost to the foundation so they can provide patient care. The Medical Staff of Hospital Metropolitano are also supportive of this work, as they perform specialized medical consultation and conduct free surgeries to patients of the foundation.
Additionally, the foundation has the valuable contribution of individuals, companies and NGO’s, their financial contributions allow the purchase of medicine, medical devices, prosthesis and necessary equipment for the foundation to accomplish its objective.

HOSPITAL METROPOLITANO PROGRAM
Provide medical and hospital care through Hospital Metropolitano; to patients that can’t afford the cost (total or partial) or to those with complex diseases.
In 2007 more than 1,800 patients received the benefit of this program.
SPECIALTY CENTER FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
Atención a personas de escasos recursos que requieren valoración médica a través del Centro de Especialidades Médicas Fraternidad.
En el 2007 se realizaron más de 7.000 atenciones.
PROGRAMA DE PREVENCIÓN DE CEGUERA INFANTIL
Attention to low income people that require medical evaluation through the Medical Specialties Center.
In 2007, more than 7,000 consultations were performed.
CHILD BLINDNESS PREVENTION PROGRAM
Care for children through the Childhood Blindness Prevention Project in Ecuador and Low Vision Patients. This project presented by Dr. Andrea Molinari, operates with funding from the Lions Club International, the World Health Organization and PAHO (Pan American Health Organization), in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health and the Ecuadorian Society of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus.
For this project, an agreement was established with Friends of the Blind Foundation who run the Institute Mariana de Jesus, for rehabilitation of low vision patients.
In 2007, 50 surgeries were performed and 600 consultations were given to patients
